Mrs. Sheila Grant

Teacher
Mrs. Grant obtained her undergraduate degree from Lander University in Medical Technology, which included one year of training at Self Memorial Hospital. Upon graduation she went to work as the Hematology Supervisor in the clinical laboratory at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta, GA. This facility trained students from the MLT Program at Augusta Technical College. When the opportunity arose, she joined the Augusta Tech team to teach Hematology & Microbiology, two of her favorite subjects at Self. During this time, she commuted to the University of Georgia to complete her Master’s Degree in Health Occupations Education. When her husband returned to UNC to pursue graduate studies, Shelia reluctantly left education with the intention of returning to the classroom should the opportunity present itself.

Several years later, when the Grants relocated to the South Carolina upstate, Shelia became a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor at Oconee Memorial Hospital. A few years later she had the opportunity to return to education, and is now in her 10th year of teaching at the Hamilton Career Center.

She is motivated by helping her students grow and mature. She believes in complementing classroom objectives with life lessons that help her students explore various vocational and career opportunities. She is also a firm believer in life-long learning and while at Hamilton, she has taken 12 graduate classes in Biology at Clemson University. She can’t wait to see what she learns next!!!
